With the arrival of all the new 2010 products and good windy conditions I decided to grab the camera and film a few local riders on their new kites. Take a look at the video clip for a wee peek at how these kites go ridden by real Kiwi riders in real local conditions.
We have the 2010 Delta Waroo and C-SLE Nemesis NXG kites from BEST Kiteboarding,
and the new 2010 range of CrazyFly Kiteboards in stock and ready to deliver to you today.
2010 BEST WAROO NXG
All the new kite gear is has landed and in stock. I have ridden all the kites and boards extensively over the past 3 weeks. The following is a summary of my experiences on the new equipment and how I see the differences between the models.

The new 2010 Waroo from BEST Kiteboarding USA, is a Delta shape kite.
This is a whole new design direction in Kiteboarding.
The Delta shape, means is that the kite has more surface area in the middle of the kite and less at the wing tips. Note the really pointy wing tips in the video of the Waroo compared to the Nemesis.
In terms of performance this delivers power more directly from a bar movements in and depowers radically when pushing the bar out. It combines all the power control and safety ides of the bow kite with added ease of use in all areas.
Riders will quickly notice this new Delta shap allows for incredibly fast water relaunch, something trick riders appreciate. Blowing a new move used to be such a pain when kites were difficult to relaunch, the Waroo has always had quick relaunching as a major feature, now it's almost automatic.
Jumping the new Dela shape Waroo is amazing, a simply send of the kite overhead and a tug on the bar has you air born. Not only that but I have found the height you can achieve on this new Waroo to be nothing short of sensational. The new aerofoil is very faster and more efficient than ever and it's very easy to jump huge with this kite. Once at altitude the extra sail in the mid section of the kite holds you up there for a nice long smooth glide back to the water. So the feeling it gives inspires confidence to push harder and higher with each jump.
Performance Riders - This kite will suit riders looking to progress and ride Unhooked / Freestyle. An area of the sport BEST Kiteboarding is famous for developing.
So naturally all the kites in the BEST range for 2010 perform exceptionally in both hooked and unhooked riding.
For fast unhooked tricks look at the 7m and 9m kites in the Waroo range, for non whip tricks look at the 11m and 13m depending on your weight.
I have found the new Delta shape to be far more efficient than the BOW design for power delivery.
You can replace the 13m from last year with the 11m of this year no problem at all. And still keep the top end wind range.
Of course you can still ride a 13m and have even more light wind performance than last years 13m if you want that instead.
The 11m will become the top seller in New Zealand as it will suit 90% of riders needs for wind range. Riding a smaller kite with the same power as a larger size offers more ease of use and versatility in riding and trick styles.
This Kite feels completely different to any Waroo kite you have ridden in the past.
The bar presure starts of light and the pressure increases as you pull hard on the bar.
If your used to a light or mushy bar feel, it will take a ride or two to realise that the solid feel from the bar is the point where you can crank it hard and loop the kite.
So it's a really responsive feel, and the heavy handed rider will also enjoy it.
First time buyers will love the fact that even if you did your lessons on older style kites from other brands (Eg: Naish Helix or Cabrinha Switchblade & Crossbow), what you learned is not wasted. In fact you will just find it easier to achieve on this kite. The skills used on your course are the same, but now you will find things like rigging and setup easier and less confusing. Going upwind easier, it practically drags you upwind. You will also find that you just feel more confident as the Waroo is so well balanced in the sky it is less likely to land in the water in the first place. When you do plant the kite in the water the Delta shape rolls the kite onto it's side and is ready to relaunch with a simple tug on the bar.
So now your not locked into buying a particular brand, this new Waroo will fit your skill set regardless of what kite your lessons were on.

2010 BEST NEMESIS NXG
A dynamic "C" shaped kite with all the BOW kite power controlThe 2010 NEMESIS NXG breaks all the rules.
Fast powered Kite loops, Unhooked and Hooked in Kite whip tricks, Full De-Power bow bridle on Leading Edge.
Twister Tech exclusive technology, External One Pump inflation system.
The new BEST Nemesis is a huge departure in design for BEST from the Flat/Bow shaped kites.
BEST have gone back to their roots with this C kite. Fast powerful and a huge amount of fun!
I have been riding the 12m NXG Nemesis (NXG = Next Generation) for a few weeks now and it is very fast and responsive in the air.
A nice feel from the bar keeps you in touch with this nimble kite.
Trying to describe the feeling of flying the Nemesis with it's high tech - Cuben Fibre and Twister Tech L/E (Leading Edge) is difficult. But what I can say is that the feeling is addictive. The super thin high pressure L/E cuts through the sky like a razor. Low on drag this kite rocks away up wind at every opportunity. And rips you skyward with ease.
If you haven't ridden one yet I highly recommend you take one for a test run as soon as possible.
It's the only real way to appreciate all the technology that is packed into this kite.
BEST should be releasing a HD promo video soon for the Nemesis.
Until then you can have a look at a few minutes footage of Joel and I taking the 12m out for a session around Auckland.
